Calasparra September Fair and Virgen de la Esperanza Pilgrimage
At the end of August and during the first week of September, Calasparra holds its patronal festivities in honour of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. The celebration brings together the town fair, the pilgrimage to the sanctuary, music, folklore, family activities and the Feria Taurina del Arroz.
Usual date
The main days occupy the first week of September and culminate around 7 and 8 September. The programme may include opening speeches and preliminary events from late August, so the exact dates should be checked each year.

Where it takes place
The programme is divided between Calasparra town centre and the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. Plaza de la Corredera, Plaza de la Constitución, Calle Mayor, Auditorio Cine Rosales, Casa de la Cultura, Campo Municipal La Caverina and the municipal bullring are among the regular venues.
The pilgrimage and sanctuary
Devotion to Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza lies at the heart of the patronal events. The pilgrimage leads to the sanctuary outside the town, where Mass, the torchlight rosary and musical performances take place. A solemn religious celebration in honour of the patron is held on 8 September.
Running of the bulls and Feria Taurina del Arroz
The bull runs follow a route from Plaza de la Constitución along Calle Mayor, Lavador and Calle Ordóñez to the bullring. The bullfighting programme also includes the novilladas of the Feria Taurina del Arroz, talks, exhibitions and events for children and enthusiasts.
