Santísimo Cristo del Consuelo Patronal Festival in Sevilla la Nueva

Sevilla la Nueva holds its patronal festivities in honour of the Santísimo Cristo del Consuelo. Worship, peña life, music, family activities, sport and bull-related events fill several venues across the town.

When it is held

The principal day is 14 September, the feast of the Santísimo Cristo del Consuelo. The celebrations normally occupy several days in September, combining preparations, the main festival period and later activities.

Where it is held

Santiago Apóstol parish church hosts the triduum, floral offering, patronal Mass and the start of the procession. Plaza de España and Plaza de los Arcos hold much of the public programme; the bullring, Rotonda del Hórreo, Ciudad Deportiva Héctor Valero and streets around the town are also used.

Devotion and religious observances

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the rosary and a triduum prepare the patronal day. A floral offering takes place on its eve. On 14 September the community gathers for Mass in honour of the Cristo and the procession through the streets.

Peñas and community life

The peñas are involved from the presentation and tying of their neckerchiefs. The cañeo, brass-band gatherings, lunchtime music sessions and Gran Chuletada turn the squares and routes through town into shared meeting places. The civic opening address begins the principal festival nights.

The Town Council coordinates the programme with peñas, associations, sports clubs, volunteers, municipal services and the emergency services. Annual measures may include public toilets, a Punto Violeta support point and reusable cups; visitors should check the current programme before setting out.
