Our Lady of Solitude Patronal Festival in Villar del Olmo

Villar del Olmo holds its patronal festivities in honour of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, Our Lady of Solitude. Devotion to the patron is joined by community events, music, peñas, bull runs and gatherings across the streets and main public spaces.

When it is held

The patronal festival is held on the third Saturday in September. Its programme normally includes preliminary events, several principal days and a closing day. In 2026 the patronal day falls on 19 September.

The patron

The council's cultural information identifies Nuestra Señora de la Soledad as a 17th-century Baroque image. The mayor describes the patron as the heart of a devotion handed down from one generation to the next.

Main venues

Nuestra Señora de la Antigua church hosts the Salve, solemn Eucharist and other worship. Plaza Mayor is used for the opening address, music and fireworks. The procession passes through the streets, while the kiosk at the municipal football ground, the Grupo Escolar courtyard, the bullring, Fuente de San Isidro and other venues complete the festival map.

Events and traditions

  • Floral offering, Salve, solemn Mass and procession of the Virgin.
  • Opening address, orchestras, brass bands, community aperitif and peña gatherings.
  • Bull runs, a bull festival and releases of cattle under the council's rules.
  • Cultural, food, sports and family events before the principal days.
  • A closing firecracker display at Fuente de San Isidro.

A community celebration

The Town Council prepares the cultural week and festivities with residents, associations, peñas, volunteers, council workers and the emergency services. The programme aims to preserve local roots while welcoming both people from Villar del Olmo and visitors.

Taking part safely

The bull runs have specific rules on minimum age, physical condition, clothing, behaviour and the treatment of cattle. Conditions vary by edition and participants must always read the current official programme.
