Holy Christ of Hope Patronal Festivities in Algete
Algete honours the Santísimo Cristo de la Esperanza with patronal festivities that combine worship, brotherhood gatherings and a procession with peñas, music, bull-related events, food and activities for families and sports participants.
Usual date
The principal days fall around 14 September, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Worship and competitions may start in late August, while some events continue into the second half of September.
See the 2026 Algete festivities programme.
Festival venues
The parish church of Asunción de Nuestra Señora and plaza de la Constitución are the main patronal settings. The fairground, parque Europa, El Arenal bullring, municipal sports centre and Ciudad Deportiva Duque de Algete host much of the popular and sporting programme.
Brotherhood and patronal worship
The Hermandad del Santísimo Cristo de la Esperanza organises the worship: lowering the image to its carriage, novena, floral offering, Miserere, concelebrated Mass, procession, auction of the standard and carriage handles, reverence and the kissing of the feet. Returning the image to its altar closes the religious cycle.
