Festa Major of Les Borges Blanques
The Festa Major fills Les Borges Blanques with bell ringing, popular culture, music, sport and family activities. The Terrall, Plaça de l'U d'Octubre, the pavilion and the town's streets form the setting for a celebration shared by local organisations and residents.
Celebration date
The first Sunday in September is its point of reference, and the main programme normally continues from Saturday to Tuesday, with preludes on the preceding days. Exact dates and the programme's scope vary each year.
Where it is held
The festival occupies different places across Les Borges Blanques: Parc del Terrall and its ponds, Plaça de l'U d'Octubre, Plaça Europa, the covered pavilion, Zona Penyes, the parish church and venues such as Espai Macià.
Bells, giants and fire
Bell peals announce the Festa Major and accompany events such as the opening address and traca. Gegants, grallers, capgrossos, devils and tabalers take over streets and squares. The Trobada de Gegants, Grallers i Correfocs, recognised as a Festa Popular d'Interès Cultural, is one of the major popular-culture gatherings.
Music, sardanes and community life
- Concerts, orchestras, dances and sessions in Zona Penyes.
- Sardanes, a sung Mass and the Festa Major concert.
- Games, water activities, family shows and competitions.
- Community sport and meals, with extensive involvement by local organisations.
Taking part and organisation
The Town Council and Comissió de Festes coordinate a programme supported by numerous cultural, sporting and youth associations. Some concerts and activities require tickets or advance registration, so visitors should consult the latest municipal agenda.
