Our Lady of Los Remedios Festival in Tegueste
The town of Tegueste honours Our Lady of Los Remedios, the municipality's patron and honorary mayoress, through a celebration combining worship, heritage and community life. Processions, music, floats, grape-harvest customs and traditional symbols bring residents and visitors together around Plaza de San Marcos and the parish church.
Usual date
The principal feast day is 8 September, although the calendar usually spans much of the month. Veneration and the first popular events may begin in late August or early September, followed later by grape-harvest celebrations and activities in different parts of the municipality.
Where it is held
Religious observances centre on the parish church of San Marcos, while the main popular gatherings take place in Plaza de San Marcos, Calle Prebendado Pacheco and other areas of Tegueste. Events may also reach Los Zamoranos, San Ignacio, La Padilla and the sports ground in El Lomo.
The Librea de Tegueste
The Librea is one of the festival's defining heritage events. The performance renews the town's historic promise to its patron and brings together the Milicia, the Barcos de Tegueste, San Luis, Pedro Álvarez and El Socorro, and the Danza de las Flores. The municipal programme states that the Librea has held Bien de Interés Cultural heritage status since 2007 and that its major staging takes place every four years.
Religious observances
The solemn Eucharist and procession of the image shape the main events on 8 September. The brotherhoods, Milicia and Agrupación Musical San Marcos Evangelista accompany the route, which includes music and a fireworks display. Later dates feature the Misa del Pueblo and a further solemn Eucharist followed by a procession.
