Nativity of Our Lady Festival in Barbastro
Barbastro honours its patron, the Nativity of Our Lady, with a festival combining worship, peñas, music, family entertainment and traditions particular to the city. Blue neckerchiefs, the Coso Blanco and the sound of the charangas give the streets their distinctive festive character.
When it is held
The principal days are held every year from 4 to 8 September. The programme commonly includes preliminary events in the closing days of August and the beginning of September.

Where it is held
The festival fills the town centre and many Barbastro venues: Plaza de la Constitución, Paseo del Coso, plazas Aragón, Diputación, San Francisco and de la Primicia, the cathedral, Parque Municipal La Paz, the fairground, bullring and Espacio Interpeñas.
Events and traditions
- Opening rocket and address from the Town Hall balcony, followed by the opening parade.
- Coso Blanco, a flower and confetti battle featuring floats, peñas and charangas.
- The giants and big-head figures procession through different neighbourhoods and streets.
- Offering of flowers, produce, songs and dances and Mass on the patron's day.
- Closing parade, fireworks, concerts, open-air dances and children's entertainment.
White, blue and the peñas
White and blue are the visible colours of the festival, with the blue neckerchief as its shared emblem. Long-established peñas and associations prepare floats, meals, musical rounds and their own activities as well as joining the major municipal events.
Participation and audiences
The Town Council coordinates the programme with neighbourhoods, peñas, associations, folklore groups, bands, clubs and emergency services. Events cater for children, young people, families and older residents alongside the religious and traditional observances.
