San Agustín Patronal Festivities in Fuente Álamo
Fuente Álamo de Murcia honours its patron, San Agustín, over ten days of worship, peña gatherings, music, folklore, sport and family activities across the town's streets and event venues.
When they are held
The programme usually runs from 21 to 30 August. The principal day is 28 August, the feast of San Agustín, marked by the Eucharist and procession.
Where they are held
Events spread across central Fuente Álamo. Regular settings include the Town Hall and Casa Consistorial, Calle Manuel de Falla, Gran Vía, Plaza de la Constitución, the Municipal Auditorium, the peñas site, Open Air Club and Polideportivo Cuatro Vientos.
Events and traditions
- The opening firework, proclamation and gathering of the peñas.
- An offering of flowers and food, the Eucharist and the procession of San Agustín and Santa Mónica.
- The presentation of sashes to the young Majas representatives.
- The Festival Nacional de Folclore Villa de Fuente Álamo and a traditional improvised-verse evening.
- Día Rociero, competitions, sport and activities for children and young people.
- Concerts, orchestras, DJ sets, a parade of troupes and floats, and the closing firecrackers.
Peñas and local participation
The peñas take part in the opening, the offering, shared meals and many competitions. Cultural, sporting and musical associations, groups for older residents and women, businesses and charitable causes contribute to a programme which the council describes as open to residents and visitors of every age.
