Local festivals in Fuente Álamo de Murcia
The San Agustín patronal festivities are usually celebrated in the second half of August and last about ten days. Streets and squares in the main town host religious events, music, folklore, sport and gatherings organised by local clubs. The Town Council's Festivals Department coordinates the celebration with associations and community groups.
Town Day and local traditions
On 20 July, Town Day recalls the granting of the title of villa by Charles II in 1700 and administrative independence from Murcia, Cartagena and Lorca. The usual celebration brings historical, cultural and musical events to municipal venues. Holy Week preserves particularly representative processions in Fuente Álamo and Balsapintada, while Carnival includes fancy dress and participation by schools in the town.
Other festivals in the outlying villages
Other celebrations include the Romería de Los Cabecicos in early May, when residents of La Pinilla accompany the Virgen de Fátima. The outlying villages preserve their own patronal festivals, and the Town Council also coordinates livestock, agricultural and food fairs that connect the cultural programme with the municipality's rural character.
