Virgen de la Blanca Festival in Valdelaguna

Valdelaguna honours the Virgen de la Blanca with a late-August celebration combining worship, community gatherings and music. The Hermandad de Nuestra Señora de la Virgen Blanca organises the programme with the Town Council and the involvement of local residents.

Usual date

The festival is normally held in late August. Several days of religious preparation lead into the main Mass, procession and activities for residents and visitors.

Where it is held

The triduum and Masses take place at the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. Plaza Valle de la Laguna hosts community gatherings and live performances, while Portallillo provides the course for the Autos Locos Abubillos race.

Worship and procession

The triduum precedes the main weekend. Mass and the procession in honour of the Virgen de la Blanca form the centrepiece on Saturday, while Sunday includes Mass for deceased members of the Brotherhood. The hymn to the Virgin and a firework display are also part of the celebration.

Events and atmosphere

  • Triduum, Mass and procession in honour of the Virgen de la Blanca.
  • A bingo fundraiser for the Brotherhood, followed by pastries and lemonade.
  • A charanga street band, open-air dance and live music.
  • Children's activities and the Autos Locos Abubillos race.

The Brotherhood and the community

The Brotherhood describes the festival as a continuing effort to revive an older tradition and keep it appealing to different generations. The Town Council, associations, private supporters and Brotherhood members contribute organisation, resources and practical help.
