Virgen de los Remedios Festivities in Alcorcón

Alcorcón's patronal festivities bring together devotion to Nuestra Señora de los Remedios and a cultural and community programme spread across the town centre, its neighbourhoods and the fairground. The descent and procession of the image shape the religious calendar, while concerts, theatre, family events and fireworks welcome all ages.

Usual date

The celebration normally takes place in the first or second week of September, around the Marian observance on 8 September. The novena begins in late August, and the detailed programme changes each year.

Venues and route

The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, the parish church of Santa María la Blanca, plaza de los Reyes de España and plaza de España form the patronal heart of the festivities. The procession generally follows a route through central Alcorcón; the council programme also reaches the Auditorio Paco de Lucía, fairground, parque de la Paz, Los Castillos and several neighbourhoods.

Devotion and tradition

Virgen de los Remedios is Alcorcón's patron. The novena, the image's descent from the hermitage, the principal Mass and the procession express a tradition maintained by the parish community and local participation. The Banda Municipal de la Escuela de Música Manuel de Falla and local traditional dance groups accompany key observances.
