Virgen de la Antigua Festival in Morata de Tajuña
Morata de Tajuña celebrates its patronal festival around Virgen de la Antigua with worship, fireworks, music, peñas, floats, bull-related events and activities for all ages.
Celebration date
The festival takes place in the first half of September. Its principal day is 8 September, the feast of Virgen de la Antigua. The novena begins in late August and precedes the offering, Mass and procession. In 2026, the main festival programme runs from 4 to 13 September.
Where it takes place
Worship connects the Ermita de la Virgen de la Antigua with Nuestra Señora de la Concepción church. Plaza Mayor hosts the opening address, orchestras and many popular events. Plaza de la Iglesia, Plaza de Espinardo, Casa Riaza and other streets and municipal venues complete the festival setting.
Devotion to Virgen de la Antigua
The local community preserves devotion to its patron saint as a tradition passed between generations. The image is taken from the chapel to the church for the novena and, on 8 September, returns in procession through Morata's streets, accompanied by the Salve and a firework display.
