Agramunt Festa Major de la Mare de Déu del Socors

Agramunt's Festa Major brings together devotion to the Mare de Déu del Socors, the town's patron, and a broad programme of folk culture, music, fire displays, sport and family activities in the first days of September. Streets and squares in the historic centre become stages, while local organisations play a central role in the celebration.

Usual date

The festival takes place in the first days of September, around the patronal observance. Exact dates vary: the 2025 edition ran from 4 to 8 September, while the main 2026 festival was announced for 3-7 September, with preliminary events from 2 September.

The Festa Major should not be treated as a general public holiday. Official non-working days depend on the labour calendar approved for each year.

Where it is held

Events are spread across Agramunt, particularly Plaça de l'Església, Plaça del Mercadal, Plaça Fondandana, Passeig Josep Brufau, Parc del Convent, the Pavelló Firal and other streets and venues. The church of Santa Maria, which contains the seventeenth-century chapel of the Mare de Déu dels Socors, is the focus of the patronal observances.

Origins and patronal devotion

The council's historical record documents long-standing devotion to the Mare de Déu del Socors as Agramunt's patron. During severe droughts, the image was carried in procession to ask for rain and drew worshippers from the surrounding district. That religious dimension continues through the solemn Mass, floral offering and besamans held in honour of the patron.

  • The Seguici Festiu and Els Balls del Poble, featuring giants, big-head figures, festive beasts and traditional dances.

L'Àliga d'Agramunt belongs to the town's festive imagery. The council dates its first appearance to 2 September 1995 and records that it has its own dance and takes part in the festive procession.

Organisation and participation

The council coordinates the programme with cultural, sporting, musical, religious and folk-culture organisations. Residents of all ages, groups of friends, businesses, visitors, performers, orchestras and guest troupes take part. The programme, routes and safety arrangements may change from one edition to another.
