Our Lady of Sorrows Festival and Burial of the Fox in Nigüelas
Nigüelas combines the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows with music, processions, fireworks and the distinctive Burial of the Fox.
Usual date
The third weekend of September, followed by the Burial of the Fox on Monday. 2026 programme.
The patronal feast
Bell ringing, collection of festival cakes, the coronation, Eucharist and processions of Our Lady of Sorrows form the religious and community core.
Burial of the Fox
The final Monday brings the vigil and the traditional Burial of the Fox, accompanied by a brass band, dancing and closing firecrackers.
