Tortosa Renaissance Festival 2026 Programme

The 29th Festa del Renaixement ran from Thursday 16 to Sunday 19 July 2026. Its theme was the Renaissance arts in 16th-century Tortosa, and the official programme contained more than one hundred activities each day.

Thursday 16 July 2026

  • 19:00: Crida del Consell with pipers, from Plaça de l'Ajuntament via Sant Blai and Agustí Querol.
  • 19:30: historical groups marched towards the inaugural ceremony.
  • 20:00: procession of the City and Vegueria flags, mace-bearers, noble families and procurators, from the Town Hall to Portal del Romeu.
  • 20:15: ceremonial opening of the gates at Portal del Romeu.
  • 20:30: opening ceremony, presentation of the festival standard, oath of the procurators and address by Ignasi Blanch, in Plaça de la Catedral.
  • From 22:00: musicians, comedians and street groups across Sant Jaume, Estudis, Absis, Cinta, Immaculada, Dolors, Catedral, Mossèn Sol, Escorxador, Sant Joan and Clos del Riu.

Friday 17 July 2026

  • 11:00-14:00 and 17:00-24:00: heritage sites, exhibitions, markets, Espai Natura, workshops, attractions and camps in the old town and Clos del Riu.
  • 18:30: Crida del Consell through Immaculada, Sant Jaume and Catedral.
  • 19:00: procurators' procession from the Town Hall to Centre d'Interpretació del Renaixement.
  • 19:15: Jurament dels Arxivers before the 1574 archive cabinet, at the interpretation centre.
  • 20:00: La Llotja dels Tractes ceremony outside the Chamber of Commerce.
  • 22:30-02:30: La Vida Secreta darrera de les Muralles del Castell de la Suda video mapping, viewed from Immaculada and Carrer de la Suda.
  • 03:20: Tortosa: la llum de l'Ebre video mapping in Plaça de la Catedral.

Saturday 18 July 2026

  • 10:30 and 18:00: Vers, pedra i corda historical-artistic journey at the Reials Col·legis.
  • 11:00-21:00: performances of Les vides fosques del Renaixement in Suda Castle's underground galleries.
  • 19:00 and 20:00: equestrian dance beside the Ebro at Ferreries river beach.
  • 19:15: presentation of standards to the noble families at the Reials Col·legis.
  • 21:00 and 23:00: Festival Euro-canço 1526 in Jardins del Príncep.
  • 22:30: noble families' dance in honour of Joan d'Aldana in Plaça de l'Absis, and the first equestrian jousting session at the cavalry camp.
  • 24:00: second jousting session and Flames al carrer in Menahem Ben Saruq.

Sunday 19 July 2026

  • 10:30: historical-artistic journey at the Reials Col·legis.
  • 11:30: procurators, noble families and mace-bearers processed from the Town Hall to Plaça de la Cinta.
  • 12:00: period Mass with Cor Flumine at Santa Maria Cathedral.
  • 18:30: Crida del Consell from Plaça de la Catedral towards Parc Teodor Gonzàlez.
  • 19:00: solemn procession of procurators and mace-bearers to the municipal park.
  • 19:30: Gran Desfilada Artística and arms display, from Teodor Gonzàlez via Avinguda Generalitat, Constitució, Bisbe Aznar, Ciutat and Croera to Catedral and Absis.
  • After the parade: gate-closing ceremony at Portal del Romeu.
  • 23:40: Les Arts, la Llum del Renaixement in Plaça de l'Absis, followed by final performances.

Markets and continuing activities

Mercat del Vall and Mercat d'Època opened on Thursday from 19:00 to 00:30, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 to 14:00 and 19:00 to 02:30, and Sunday from 11:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 24:00. Encampments, heritage activities, workshops, roaming music and Espai Natura completed each day at their published times.
