Romería da Franqueira 2026 programme

The Santuario de Nosa Señora da Franqueira holds its 2026 programme from Sunday 30 August to Saturday 24 October. Tuesday 8 September, the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, is the principal day.

Notice: the programme may change. Check announcements from the sanctuary and A Cañiza Council before travelling.

General novena timetable: 30 August to 6 September

  • Monday to Saturday, 17:00: sacrament of Reconciliation, unless the specific day's programme states otherwise.
  • Monday to Saturday, 18:00: rosary and Mass.
  • Sundays, 16:30: novena, followed by Mass at 17:00.

Sunday 30 August 2026: seafaring communities

  • 11:00: Mass at the sanctuary.
  • 16:30: novena.
  • 17:00: Mass with Stella Maris taking part.
  • Launch of the Una flor, una oración campaign; flowers for the cart and church can be bought in the sacristy for €2.

Monday 31 August 2026: rural communities

  • 11:00: Mass.
  • 17:00: Reconciliation.
  • 18:00: rosary, novena and Mass.

Tuesday 1 September 2026: care for creation

  • 17:00: Reconciliation.
  • 18:00: rosary, novena and Mass, with prayer for the care of creation.

Wednesday 2 September 2026: vocations

  • 11:00: spiritual retreat for priests organised by the Diocese of Tui-Vigo's Vicariate for Clergy.
  • 17:00: Reconciliation.
  • 18:00: rosary, novena and Mass.

Thursday 3 September 2026: peace

  • 17:00: Reconciliation.
  • 18:00: rosary, novena and Mass, followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.

Friday 4 September 2026: young people

  • 17:00: Reconciliation.
  • 18:00: rosary, novena and Mass.
  • 19:00: prayer to the Virgin led by the Sisters of St Joseph of Cluny in Vigo, followed by shared refreshments. Advance registration is required.

Saturday 5 September 2026: children

  • 09:00, 10:30 and 12:00: Masses; the noon Mass is offered for devotees.
  • 18:00: Mass after the rosary and novena.
  • The day commemorates St Teresa of Calcutta.

Sunday 6 September 2026: Cáritas

  • 10:00, 11:00 and 12:00: Masses.
  • 16:30: novena.
  • 17:00: Mass with Anointing of the Sick.

Monday 7 September 2026: eve of the feast

  • 09:00, 10:00 and 11:00: Masses.
  • 12:00: Mass followed by a procession.
  • 18:00: Mass with the novena.
  • 19:00 and 20:00: Masses.
  • 21:00: torchlight procession with the rosary.

Tuesday 8 September 2026: Nativity of the Virgin

  • 07:00, 08:00, 09:00, 10:00 and 11:00: Masses.
  • 12:00: solemn Mass presided over by the Bishop of Tui-Vigo, Mons. Antonio Valín.
  • After the solemn Mass: procession with the Virxe da Franqueira, dance and the mouro e o cristián drama performed by parish young people with Folieiros de Lavadores. The council programme places the ox-cart procession and performance at about 13:00.
  • 17:00, 18:00 and 19:00: Masses.

Wednesday 9 September 2026

  • 11:00: Mass.
  • 12:00: solemn Mass and procession.
  • 18:00: Mass.

Later September celebrations

  • Saturday 12, 09:00, 10:30, 12:00 and 18:00: Masses.
  • Sunday 13, 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 17:00 and 18:00: Masses.
  • Saturday 19, 09:00, 10:30, 12:00 and 18:00: Masses.
  • Sunday 20, 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00 and 17:00: Masses. The noon solemn Mass and procession with Folieiros de Lavadores lead into the traditional festa dos poxos, raising money for charity.
  • Saturday 26, 09:00 and 18:00: Masses.
  • Sunday 27, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00 and 17:00: Masses and a family celebration with the Family Ministry delegation.

October activities

  • Saturday 10 October: walk from Uma to the A Franqueira sanctuary; the official source gives no time.
  • Sunday 11 October: celebration for Hispanic communities, with the Migrants Ministry delegation; the official source gives no time.
  • Saturday 24 October: 24th Rosary pilgrimage; the official source gives no time.
