Navia Estuary Swimming Descent 2026 Programme

The 68th Descenso Internacional a Nado de la Ría de Navia was held on Sunday 2 August 2026. Events began on Friday 31 July, included the 27th Copa Asturias on Saturday 1 August and continued with the MiniDescenso on Wednesday 12 August.

Notice: the swimming events were subject to the official regulations, safety arrangements and conditions in the estuary. This page reproduces the programme published by the Asociación de Amigos de la Ría de Navia.

Friday 31 July 2026

  • 16:00: participants' campsite opened at Colegio Público Ramón de Campoamor sports hall, remaining open until 16:00 on Monday 3 August.
  • 19:00: plaque honouring the previous edition's winners unveiled at the winners' memorial in Navia harbour.
  • 19:30: volunteer legacy ceremony and tribute to absent friends at the Descenso monument in the harbour basin.
  • 22:00: opening address and proclamation of the Queen and her attendants at Teatro Fantasio, broadcast live and relayed at the Casino.
  • 23:30: toast in honour of the Queen and attendants at Casino de Navia.
  • 23:45: swimmers' party at Nave Municipal El Puerto.

Saturday 1 August 2026: 27th Copa Asturias

  • 16:10: open-water competitions began, with racing due to close at 19:10.
  • 17:00: race-number collection at Nave del Puerto.
  • 19:00: music at #TerritorioRiaNavia in Parque Alfonso Iglesias.
  • 21:00: Copa Asturias trophy ceremony on the #TerritorioRiaNavia stage.
  • 22:00: music at #TerritorioRiaNavia.

Sunday 2 August 2026: 68th Descenso

  • 10:00: race-number collection at Nave del Puerto and a musical wake-up parade by folklore groups through Navia.
  • 11:00: swimmers assembled for the procession at Nave del Puerto.
  • 12:00: swimmers and folklore groups began their procession towards the parish church.
  • 13:00: offering to Santa María de la Barca in the church, with simultaneous folklore performances; communal meal began at De Díaz self-service restaurant on Avenida del Pardo.
  • 18:15: races in the 68th Navia Estuary Swimming Descent began.
  • 19:15: cavalcade of floats, pipe bands, brass bands and entertainers from the bus station to the quay and #TerritorioRiaNavia.
  • 20:15: romería, distribution of bread rolls and folklore festival at #TerritorioRiaNavia.
  • 20:30: winners' prize ceremony on the #TerritorioRiaNavia stage.
  • 22:15: general trophy ceremony at #TerritorioRiaNavia.

Wednesday 12 August 2026

  • 17:30: MiniDescenso, a non-competitive 1,100-metre popular swim following a course similar to the Descenso's 1,100-metre race.

Swimming races

The official regulations provided 1,100, 2,400 and 5,000-metre Descenso races, as well as the 7.5-kilometre Copa Asturias and its formats. Entry and participation were subject to categories, controls, safety arrangements and the published competition documents.
