Local festivals in Xàtiva
The Fira d’Agost is usually celebrated from 15 to 20 August and fills the town centre with commercial and craft stalls, fairground rides, music, theatre, sport and food events. Its origin dates back to the privilege granted by James I in 1250, making it an essential part of the town’s historic identity.
Corpus Christi and festive heritage
Xàtiva’s Corpus Christi celebration has been documented since the 14th century. The civic and religious processions pass through the streets from Plaça de la Seu, accompanied by giants and traditional dances including the Moma, nanos, cavallets, arquets, farmers’ dance and stick dance. Cultural associations, dance schools, parishes, schools and musical groups keep this heritage alive.
Other celebrations
Holy Week brings brotherhoods and confraternities into the historic churches and streets. The local calendar also preserves the Fallas and the festival of Sant Feliu, associated with the town’s former patron saint.
