Local festivals in Vilamarxant
The usual celebration of the Santísimo Cristo de la Salud and Santa Catalina patronal festivities occupies almost two weeks in late August and ends with religious events on 29 and 30 August. Streets, squares and festival venues host bous al carrer, orchestras, children's activities and community gatherings. The Town Council, parish, festival committees, associations and residents take part in organising the programme and the events honouring the patrons.
Sant Blai
The Sant Blai festival is linked to 3 February and is also celebrated on the following Sunday. Residents of Carrer Sant Blai organise the day, when mass and the blessing of bread rolls are followed by their distribution with devotional cards and chocolate. Grup de Danses i Llenyaters accompanies the street procession with a dansà to the sound of dolçaina and tabal.
Other events: Dansa dels Pastorets
On 25 December, four dancers perform the Dansa dels Pastorets wearing esparto footwear, short black breeches, a sash, sheepskin waistcoat, a bundle of wood and a stick used for percussion. The dance recalls shepherds and woodcutters who came down from the Serranía to ask for Christmas gifts, combining choreographed movements with wind and string instruments and the singing of les nadales.
