Local festivals in Moncada
The patronal festivities are usually celebrated over the opening days of September and include celebrations dedicated to San Jaime Apóstol and Santa Bárbara. The presentation of the festival queen and court of honour, street processions, clavaria days, music, pyrotechnics and association gatherings fill the squares and streets until the main feast day of San Jaime.
Other celebrations: Fallas and the Misterio de la Pasión
The Fallas commissions hold the plantà, street processions, offering, mascletaes and cremà in March. During Holy Week, the Misterio de la Pasión stages scenes from the Old Testament and the Passion with local actors; part of the performance travels through the streets to the Santa Bárbara chapel and ends with the Santo Entierro procession.
A deeply rooted theatrical tradition
The Misterio de la Pasión was recognised as a festival of tourist interest in 1967. Its performances take place across several settings and combine acting, costume, effects and community participation, turning the town centre and the area around the chapel into stages for the story.
