Local festivals in Meliana

The usual celebration of the Santíssim Crist de la Providència and Mare de Déu de la Misericòrdia patronal festivities occupies several days between late August and mid-September. Plaça Major, the Sants Joans church and town-centre streets host the proclamation, parades, processions, music, traditional dancing and community gatherings. The Town Council, male and female clavarios, image bearers, parish, music associations and residents organise and accompany the celebrations.

Dance, music and processions

The Municipal Dance School brings Valencian dances to Plaça Major accompanied by tabal and dolçaina. The patronal images pass through the streets with clavarios, bearers, bands and residents; the Pujà del Crist de la Providència is one of the most deeply rooted community moments in the festival cycle.

Other events: Corpus and Sant Vicent Ferrer

At Corpus, the dances of the Moma, Magrana, Arquets, Vetes and Cabuts precede the procession from Sants Joans over a two-day celebration. Municipal-school pupils, local children and musicians follow a route strewn with myrtle and aromatic plants. In spring, Carrer Sant Vicent is decorated with painted flowerpots for several days during festivities organised by the festival committee in collaboration with the Town Council.
