Local festivals in Manises
The patronal festivities in honour of Saints Justa and Rufina, patrons of Manises and ceramicists, are usually celebrated in July. The Clavaria de les Santes Justa i Rufina organises the religious and popular events that culminate on 19 July.
Ceramics Festival and Parade
On the weekend before the patron saints’ day, ceramicists and craftspeople bring their techniques into the streets for the Festa de la Ceràmica. Demonstrations of wheel throwing, painting, socarrats, lustreware, clay sculpture, jewellery and raku give visitors opportunities to discover and try crafts closely tied to the town’s identity.
On the afternoon of 18 July, the Ceramics Parade crosses Manises with floats from which thousands of pieces made by local workshops and craftspeople are distributed. Documented since 1900, the tradition preserves the giving of miniatures, tableware and ceramic objects created for the festival.
Other celebrations
The Fallas bring monuments, street parades, music and fireworks in March, while the Moors and Christians comparsas hold their parades and embassies at the beginning of summer.
