Local festivals in El Puig de Santa Maria

The Mare de Déu del Puig patronal festivities are usually celebrated over several days in September and fill the streets with music, traditional events and community gatherings. A proclamation in Plaça de l'Ajuntament opens the cycle, organised by the Town Council and festival groups around the Marian devotion associated with the municipality and its monastery.

Sant Pere Nolasc and the olleta

On the last Sunday in January, El Puig honours Sant Pere Nolasc with street parades, cant d'estil singing and the Dansà de Sant Pere. The clavarios prepare large cauldrons of arròs amb fesols i naps, known as the olleta de Sant Pere, and share it with residents and visitors. The tradition recalls the welcome and feeding of captives who arrived by sea in 1654 and culminates in the young people's trencà de perols.

Other celebrations: Sant Antoni

On the second weekend in February, the Sant Antoni festival maintains its link with animals and the farming environment. The carrera de joies brings horses and riders to the beach, while Sunday's blessing gathers domestic and working animals in a celebration rooted in Valencian popular culture.
