Local festivals in Alginet

The Festes Majors de Alginet are usually celebrated over several days in the second half of August in honour of Sant Josep. The Plega procession travels through the old town with the popular dance group, Societat Artística Musical, equestrian association and festival representatives, who collect residents' contributions before a raffle and the opening address.

Sant Josep and shared traditions

The transfer of the image of Sant Josep between the hermitage and church, bell-ringing and the procession shape the religious observance. Coca amb cansalada, all-i-oli, omelette, paella and pimentó en samorra competitions, the pa en puny communal supper, Valencian pelota and the fancy-dress parade turn streets and squares into places for community life.

Fallas and other celebrations

The Fallas commissions keep the Fallas festival alive through monuments, parades, music and neighbourhood activities. Bands, sports schools, cultural associations and festival groups broaden a calendar in which Valencian tradition is combined with the participation of districts and families.
