Local festivals in Alfafar

The main patronal festivities are usually celebrated over several days between late August and the first half of September in honour of the Virgen del Don and San Sebastián. The flower offering, solemn mass, procession and later transfer of the Virgin's image form the religious core, accompanied by barracones, music, community meals and activities organised with local associations.

Other celebrations: Fallas and neighbourhood festivities

The Fallas commissions hold the plantà, street processions, offering and cremà in March in honour of San José. El Tremolar celebrates the Virgen de los Desamparados at the beginning of June, while the Orba or Parque Alcosa neighbourhood holds its popular festivities in July with a float parade, paella gatherings, music, sport and a Moros y Cristianos parade.

Traditions of the Virgen del Don

After the patronal festivities, the image of the Virgen del Don is taken to the municipal cemetery and later returns towards the Casa de la Verge. The route and mass beside the llidoner tree recall the local tradition surrounding the discovery of the patron saint and connect the celebration with several places in the municipality.
