Local festivals in Segorbe
The patronal festivities are usually celebrated from the last Saturday in August and continue for two weeks. The first is dedicated to the Virgin under the titles Esperanza, Loreto and Cueva Santa, with presentations, an offering, a pilgrimage to Esperanza chapel, decorated streets, music and fireworks.
Bull and Horse Entry
During the second week of September, the Bull and Horse Entry takes place from Monday to Sunday. At two in the afternoon, skilled horse riders guide the herd from Rialé and Plaza de los Mesones along Calle Colón to Plaza de la Cueva Santa, while the crowd forms a barrier-free corridor. The tradition has written references dating back to 1386 and was declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest in 2005 and an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2011.
Other events and participation
The horse riders' parade, vaquillas, embolado bulls, open-air dances and the Artisan Ham and Sausage Fair complete the bull-running week. The Town Council, horse riders' associations, livestock keepers, musicians, festival organisations, artisans and residents sustain a celebration that fills the historic centre's squares and streets.
