Local festivals in Torrevieja

The Virgen del Carmen festivities express Torrevieja's historic relationship with the sea and fishing. The City Council and Fishermen's Guild organise events with associations, choirs, bands, residents and fishing families at the port, fish market, parish churches and Paseo Juan Aparicio.

Usual celebration

The celebration usually lasts for several days in July and culminates on the 16th, the feast of the Virgen del Carmen. The floral offering, Salve Marinera, paella competition, dawn musical procession, maritime cucaña and procession on land and at sea preserve a tradition that passes through the town centre and port.

Programme for 2026

The 2026 edition ran from 4 to 16 July. On the 11th, a Mass for deceased fishermen at the Church of the Sacred Heart was followed by a floral offering from Calle Zoa to the Monumento al Hombre del Mar; the fish market hosted the paella competition on the 15th. Events on the 16th included the dawn procession, maritime cucaña in the port, Mass at the Archpriest Church of the Immaculate Conception, the land and sea procession and fireworks.

Local public holidays in 2026

The Valencian Government set 13 April, San Vicente Ferrer, and 16 July, Virgen del Carmen, as Torrevieja's two local public holidays in 2026. They were paid, non-recoverable working-calendar holidays; the latter coincided with the close of the maritime festival programme.

Other cultural events

Carnival, the patronal festivities of the Immaculate Conception and the Certamen Internacional de Habaneras y Polifonía complete the city's cultural calendar on separate dates.
