Local festivals in Muro de Alcoy
The Moors and Christians festivities are usually celebrated over several days around the second weekend in May and honour the Mare de Déu dels Desemparats. Documented since 1822, they bring together the filaes of the Moorish and Christian sides for the Entrades, accompanied by pasodobles and marches along the streets towards the festival castle.
The patron, embassies and Dia dels Trons
The transfer of the image from the chapel, floral offering, mass and procession shape the patronal observance. The Moorish and Christian embassies portray the contest for the castle, while the Dia dels Trons includes ceremonial gunfire. The Junta de Festes coordinates the celebration with the comparsas, bands, Town Council and local residents.
Other events: Publicà and Pujà
The Publicà usually announces the approaching festival through a parade of child and adult representatives from the filaes, closed by the Angelet's recitation. On the third weekend in May, the Pujà draws a large crowd to accompany the Mare de Déu dels Desemparats back to her chapel and brings the festive cycle to a close.
