Local festivals in Monforte del Cid
The Moors and Christians festivities are usually celebrated over five days, from 5 to 9 December, in honour of the Immaculate Conception. The Alborada opens a cycle with main parades, embassies, festive music, gunpowder, mass and a procession. The Moros, Cristianos and Contrabandistas comparsas bring men and women together on equal terms, accompanied by bands, the Unión de Fiestas, the Town Council and a large body of participants.
San Pascual romería
In May, the San Pascual romería leads pilgrims to the saint's cave in the Sierra de las Águilas. The ascent, religious observances and gathering in the natural surroundings usually extend over several days and connect Monforte with Orito, associations, festival groups and visitors from elsewhere.
Other celebrations: San Roque and the settlements
Around 16 August, the San Roque neighbourhood preserves a week of festivities with decorated streets, food, games and religious observances organised by its committee and the Town Council. Orito, San Ramón and other neighbourhoods and residential areas complete the summer with their own celebrations, distributing festive activity throughout the municipality.
