Local festivals in La Nucía

The Festes d'Agost are usually celebrated from 14 to 18 August in honour of the Mare de Déu de l'Assumpció and Sant Roc. For five days, Plaça Major, Parc de la Favara, the Sant Rafel chapel and streets in the old town host religious and festive events. The entrance of the penyes, opening speech, despertàs, mascletàs, procession, flower offering, fancy-dress parade and correfoc form the heart of the celebration.

Clubs, stewards and popular culture

The Mayorales organise the festivities with the Town Council's Festivals Department and the Associació de Penyes. The festival queen and her court, the clubs, Unió Musical La Nucia and dolçaina players participate in street parades, visits to club sectors, dances and music. The change of stewards closes the annual cycle and hands responsibility to the next club. The festivities are recognised as a Festival of Local Tourist Interest in the Valencian Community.

Other patronal festivals

Other celebrations include the Festes del Santíssim i Sant Rafel, usually held on the third weekend in November. The Puríssima Concepció church, Sant Rafel chapel and Plaça de Les Nits host Masses, processions, bell ringing, despertàs, food competitions and neighbourhood gatherings.
