Local festivals in Xàbia/Jávea
The festive calendar begins with the usual celebration in honour of Jesús Nazareno, between late April and early May, in the historic centre. Processions, flower crosses, music and fireworks accompany the return of the image and the events organised by the brotherhood and municipality.
Fogueres and Moors and Christians
Les Fogueres de Sant Joan welcome the summer in June and last for several days. The Nit dels Focs follows a route around bonfires in the old town and connects the fire tradition with the participation of age groups and local clubs. In July, the Moors and Christians comparsas bring their entrances, music and re-enactments to the seafaring district of Duanes de la Mar.
Virgen de Loreto and other celebrations
In early September, Duanes holds its festivities for the Mare de Déu de Loreto, with popular and religious events and the traditional bous a la mar beside the harbour. The maritime procession for Virgen del Carmen, the Portitxol festivities and the pilgrimage to Santa Llúcia complete a calendar shaped by the sea and Mediterranean traditions.
