Local festivals in Cocentaina
The Moors and Christians festivities in honour of Sant Hipòlit are usually celebrated over four days on the second weekend of August. Plaça de la Vila, Passeig del Comtat, the festival castle and the streets host the Entrada parade, Dianes, floral offering, high mass, Presentation of Arms, embassies and Alardo. The Town Council, Junta de Festes, eight Christian filaes, eight Moorish filaes, bands and more than three thousand musicians and festival participants take part.
Fira de Tots Sants
In the first days of November, Fira de Tots Sants transforms the historic centre, El Pla and El Raval for several days. Established by royal privilege in 1346, it brings together a medieval market, Arab souk, Valencian porrat, livestock and horse fair, crafts, machinery, food and cultural events. The Town Council, traders, livestock keepers, associations and Cocentaina residents organise and sustain this historic gathering.
Other celebrations: Mare de Déu del Miracle
Around 19 April, the patron is carried through the spaces between the Mare de Déu monastery and Santa Maria church. The transfer, Súplica, floral offering, mass and procession commemorate the miracle of tears documented in 1520. Pia Unió, the parishes, Town Council, musicians, stewards and residents take part in the devotional events.
