Local festivals in Castalla
The Moors and Christians festivities in honour of the Virgen de la Soledad are usually celebrated for four days in early September, preceded by Nit de l'Olleta. The Entrada parade, floral offering, embassies, Ballà de les Banderes, descent of the Virgin and arquebus volleys pass through Plaça Major, the chapel and the streets beneath the castle. The Town Council, Agrupación de Comparsas, bands, festival participants and seven comparsas sustain a tradition with more than two centuries of history.
Sant Jaume and Festes de Vaca
On 25 July, Sant Jaume announces the main festivities with the blessing of flags, a parade from the chapel and Ballà de les Banderes in Plaça Major. Around 16 August, Festes de Vaca honour San Roque for several days with a procession and popular bull events along a closed route through the central streets, organised with the involvement of the Town Council and festival groups.
Other celebrations: Les Danses
Over three days on the penultimate weekend in September, Les Danses bring regional folk dances to Plaça Major to the sound of dolçaina and tabalet. Mig Any, Carnival, San Antonio Abad and the children's Catalinetes i Nicolauets celebrations complete the calendar maintained by local associations and residents.
