Local festivals in Callosa de Segura
The San Roque patronal festivities are usually celebrated from 5 to 16 August. The novena, offering, Mass and procession lead to the sanctuary above the town, with the festival committee, brotherhoods, civic representatives, associations and residents taking part.
Moors and Christians
Since 1977, the comparsas of the Moorish and Christian sides have staged parades between Paseo de la Estación and Avenida de la Constitución. Sarracenos and Benimerines form the Moorish side; Caballeros del Cid, Corsarios, Estudiantes and Contrabandistas make up the Christian side, together with their filas, festival officers and music.
Other celebrations: Farolico, Farolata and popular traditions
On 5 August, a procession carries the Farolico de Venancio up the sierra to announce the novena. The Farolata later brings children and families together with lanterns, giants, big-headed figures, dolçaina and drum music. The May Crosses and Holy Week complete a festive heritage closely connected with streets, chapels and brotherhoods.
