Local festivals in Altea

The Festes Majors are usually celebrated on the fourth or final weekend of September in honour of the Santísimo Cristo del Sagrario and Sant Blai. Patronal devotion shares the streets with the Moors and Christians festivities, known for their music, colour and the participation of the filaes.

Entradas, embassies and gunpowder

The Entrà de la Murta, band parade, dianas and Moorish and Christian entradas lead into the embassies and alardos. Processions reach the church of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo and Plaza de la Iglesia, while the Federació de Moros i Cristians Sant Blai, the Cristo committee, bands, filaes, parish and Town Council sustain the celebration.

Other celebrations: Cristo de la Salud

Altea la Vella usually honours the Cristo de la Salud on the third Sunday before the beginning of Lent. The novena, Entrà de la Murta, services and procession form the traditional core of this occasion, organised by its festival committee with the participation of the parish community.
