Festivals in Cintruénigo
Discover the festivals of Cintruénigo, shaped by Virgen de la Paz, the September livestock tradition and the distinctive Sanjuanera ritual.
Local festivals in Cintruénigo
The Virgen de la Paz festivities are usually celebrated over seven days, from 7 to 13 September. A rocket from Plaza de los Fueros opens days of bull runs, giants, music and communal meals; the Traída de las Vacas follows the River Alhama and recalls the arrival of livestock that once mobilised the whole town. The Town Council, peñas, groups of friends and residents participate in organising the celebration.
San Juan and the Sanjuanera
On the night of 23 to 24 June, the San Juan festivities fill streets and venues with a bonfire, bull runs, dances and communal food. The Chapalangarra tradition represents the defeat of evil: young men carry the figures, the widows intervene beside the fire and the community then sings and dances the Sanjuanera, a piece passed between generations.
Other events: Navarrese food
In early October, the Navarrese Gastronomy Festival lasts for several days with a produce market, tastings, winery visits, a pintxo route and contests. The Town Council, hospitality businesses, producers and associations make this cultural calendar event a showcase for the market gardens, wine and cooking of the Ribera district.
