Local festivals in Mazarrón
Mazarrón brings together the Purísima Concepción patronal festivities in the town, the San José festivities in Puerto de Mazarrón and a carnival shaped by local carnival clubs. Each celebration has its own dates and venues, and none should be confused with the days declared to be local public holidays for employment purposes.
Usual celebration
The Purísima festivities are usually held around 8 December and last approximately two weeks. The Town Council places many social, cultural and sporting events at the Recinto Ferial and highlights the float parade, which runs from Avenida Constitución to Calle La Vía beside La Aceña sports hall. In Puerto de Mazarrón, the San José festivities combine religious events, a fair, a market, music and community gatherings around San José parish church, the seafront and El Rihuete.
Programme for 2026
The official San José 2026 programme ran from 13 to 22 March. It included the opening speech and novena in the parish church, a seafaring market and fairground attractions at El Rihuete, a tapas route, concerts, the burning of the falla and, on 19 March, Mass and a procession between the church and the seafront. Mazarrón Carnival 2026 ran from 7 to 22 February, with children's, adult and carnival-club parades, the Noche de Migas and the burning of Don Carnal; the Town Council, carnival clubs and ceremonial representatives took part.
Local public holidays in 2026
The official Region of Murcia resolution sets 12 June and 17 November for Mazarrón. These are the two local public holidays in 2026 and their employment scope is not the same as the duration of the patronal festivities.
Other events
The municipal calendar also includes celebrations in the outlying settlements, coastal activities and events connected with the area's mining and maritime heritage, each governed by its own programme when one is published by the Town Council.
