Festivals in Fortuna

Discover the main festivals of Fortuna, linked to San Roque, Cueva Negra, the town's Roman thermal past and its farming life.

Local festivals in Fortuna

The San Roque patronal festivities and Iberian-Roman Sodales are usually celebrated over eight days, from 10 to 17 August. The town-centre avenues, festival camp and Cueva Negra host the presentation and crowning of the nymphs, the major Iberian-Roman parade, a market, Roman-inspired dinner, open-air dances, concerts and fireworks. The Town Council, Federation of Sodales, festival associations, parish, performers and residents take part in organising them.

Kalendas and the memory of Fortuna Balnearis

Kalendas Aprili brings associations and families to Cueva Negra to recall the ancient pilgrimages linked to the sanctuary and thermal springs. Re-enactments, community gatherings, food and games evoke the past of Fortuna Balnearis; the sodales represent divinities and communities from the Iberian and Roman worlds in events held throughout the year.

Other celebrations: fire, farming and tradition

On the weekend after 15 May, San Isidro combines farming traditions with mass, a community gathering and countryside activities. San Juan and San Pedro lead the Fire Festivals, marked by gunpowder and bonfires. Carnival preserves the máscara fea disguise, while Holy Week, the Easter picnic days and the living Nativity at Christmas broaden the calendar with brotherhoods, associations, craftspeople and residents.
