Local festivals in Cehegín

The Patronal Festivities honouring the Virgen de las Maravillas are usually celebrated from 8 to 14 September. The parade of giants and big-heads, the municipal band and the Tío de la Pita accompany the opening procession from Plaza del Castillo to the fairground, where barracas, communal migas and neighbourhood gatherings share space with cultural activities.

Processions of the patron

On 10 September, the religious service and procession take the Virgin from the San Esteban convent to Santa María Magdalena church. The return to the sanctuary on 14 September closes the patronal cycle, with the Virgen's brotherhood, parish community and many residents accompanying the image.

Other celebrations: San Isidro and Carnival

The San Isidro festivities bring farmers and market gardeners together in May for a pilgrimage, decorated carts, horses, cuadrilla groups, choirs and dance groups, an outdoor huertano Mass, blessing of the fields, migas and rice dishes. Carnival preserves the Fiesta del Mascarón, children's and main parades, comparsas and Piñata Saturday as expressions of creativity and popular participation.
