Local festivals in Villanueva de la Cañada

The Santiago Apóstol patronal festivities are usually celebrated around 25 July. The opening speech and religious observances begin several days of street parades, open-air dances, concerts, traditional games, sporting events, fairground attractions and fireworks.

Santiago Apóstol and the peñas

The peñas Los Cucos, Los Despernaos, Las Katas and Los Tuuusos play a central role in local festivities. Their brass bands and street rounds accompany community gatherings, while the Mass and procession for the patron saint form the religious heart of the celebration.

Other celebrations: San Isidro and San Marcos

On 15 May, San Isidro recalls the municipality’s agricultural past. The celebration brings together Mass, a procession, music, traditional lemonade and charitable activities involving associations, peñas and local clubs. San Marcos also preserves the Fiesta del Roscón, centred on a sweet recipe handed down through generations.
