Local festivals in Madrid

San Isidro Labrador is Madrid's principal patronal festival. The city also marks La Almudena and the summer street festivals of San Cayetano, San Lorenzo and La Paloma, rooted in the central districts.

Usual celebration

San Isidro is usually celebrated around 15 May and lasts several days. The Pradera pilgrimage, chotis dancing and castizo dress, rosquillas, giants and big-head figures, street dances and concerts fill the Pradera de San Isidro, Plaza Mayor, Las Vistillas and Matadero. The City Council and Madrid Destino organise the programme with districts, associations, performers and cultural groups.

Programme for 2026

The official festivities ran from 7 to 17 May. Sonsoles Ónega delivered the opening speech from Casa de la Villa on the 7th; the programme brought together popular dancing, parades of giants and big-head figures, competitions, exhibitions, fashion and gastronomy. The Pradera, Plaza Mayor, Las Vistillas and Matadero hosted almost fifty bands and soloists, street dances and family events.

Local public holidays in 2026

The official municipal calendar designates Friday 15 May, San Isidro Labrador, and Monday 9 November, Nuestra Señora de la Almudena. These are Madrid's two local public holidays in 2026 and do not by themselves cover the duration of either festival programme.

Other events

The August street-festival season links San Cayetano, San Lorenzo and the Virgen de la Paloma in Lavapiés and La Latina, with decorated streets, music, dancing and neighbourhood associations at its heart.
