Local festivals in Griñón
The usual celebration of the Santísimo Cristo Aparecido patronal festivities lasts several days in June. Plaza Mayor, Nuestra Señora de la Asunción church, the chapel area and the town's festival venues host religious events, music, peña gatherings, sport, children's activities and community celebrations. The Town Council, confraternity, parish, peñas, associations, municipal services and residents organise and take part in the festivities.
Cristo Aparecido pageant
The night-time pageant recreates the discovery of a small image of Christ beside the old Toledo road, a tradition dating from the reign of Philip II. Residents and local groups perform the scene around the church as part of a celebration recognised as a Festival of Tourist Interest by the Community of Madrid since 2005.
Other events: procession and pilgrimage
The image usually travels through the streets accompanied by worshippers, the confraternity and music before linking the parish church with the Cristo Aparecido chapel. The annual pilgrimage follows this devotional route along the chapel's tree-lined path and brings residents and visitors together around the town's principal festive symbol.
