Local festivals in El Molar
The patronal festivities of the Virgen del Remolino are usually celebrated over several days around Ascension Thursday. The Church of the Assumption, Plaza Mayor and the streets host the novena, mass, a procession, fireworks, music, dancing, sport and cultural events. The Virgen del Remolino brotherhood, parish, Town Council, peñas, associations and residents take part in the organisation.
Usual celebration of Pan y Queso
On Easter Sunday, the Pan y Queso pilgrimage usually occupies the whole afternoon. Residents walk down to the chapel beside the River Jarama and accompany the Virgen del Remolino in procession back to the town, with blessed bread, cheese and lemonade distributed to participants. The brotherhood, families and parish community maintain this transfer as one of the main links between the patron and the town.
Other events: La Maya and San Isidro
In spring, the La Maya festival enthrones a girl accompanied by her attendants on a floral stage in Plaza Mayor, while the Ronda de los Mayos, traditional songs and dances fill the town centre. Recognised as a regional festival of tourist interest since 2011, it involves Grupo de Baile El Taral, visiting groups, families and the Town Council. Around 15 May, the San Isidro chapel and meadow host mass, a procession and community gatherings organised with farmers and livestock breeders.
