Local festivals in Vilagarcía de Arousa
The San Roque patronal festivities, recognised as a Festival of National Tourist Interest, run for about ten days around 16 August. The saint's procession, the Festa da Auga and the Combate Naval are the best-known parts of the festival cycle.
Usual celebration
On 16 August, the image of San Roque travels from the parish church to his chapel to the sound of the pasodoble Triunfo. Once the saint has entered the chapel, the Festa da Auga begins inside the designated wet zone, with brass bands, water containers, residents and the emergency services taking part. The programme also usually includes concerts, street performances and the Combate Naval, a firework display around A Concha and A Compostela.
