Local festivals in Cambados
The Festa do Viño Albariño is usually celebrated over several days around the first Sunday in August. Wineries, winegrowers, peñas and visitors fill the streets and squares with tastings, judging sessions, an opening speech, music, folklore and activities connected with the wine culture of the Rías Baixas.
History, wine and popular culture
The festival began in 1953 as a dinner and competition between wine producers before opening to the whole town. Public tastings, the parade of wine brotherhoods, technical sessions, the Galician dance festival and the tasters' competition reflect its development. Recognised as a Festival of International Tourist Interest since 2018, its main gatherings take place around A Calzada, Praza de Fefiñáns and the gardens of Pazo de Torrado.
Other celebrations: San Benito and maritime traditions
On 11 July, San Benito is carried through Cambados in procession, accompanied by bagpipe groups and the giants Petra and Benito. The summer calendar also preserves the seafaring devotion to the Virgen del Carmen and San Antonio, with events at Tragove harbour involving the Fishers' Guild, bands and traditional groups.
