Local festivals in A Guarda
Festas do Monte are usually celebrated for more than a week during the second week of August. The town streets host cultural events, music and sport; the folklore parade brings together pipe and dance groups, and the pilgrimage climbs Monte Santa Trega before a farewell with fireworks. Asociación Almirante del Mar Océana, the Council, peñas, traditional groups and residents organise this Galician festival of tourist interest.
Usual celebration of the Virgen del Carmen
On 16 July, the harbour and nearby streets usually celebrate the Virgen del Carmen during a maritime festival day. Solemn mass, the procession and a floral tribute to those lost at sea commemorate the community's links with the sea. The parish, seafarers, associations, families and Council take part in an event shaped by remembrance and harbour identity.
Other events: Santa Trega and food festivals
The Santa Trega pilgrimage, honouring A Guarda's patron, usually brings the parish community and pilgrims together on the mountain and its surroundings for a day of religious and popular traditions. The local calendar also includes several food-festival weekends devoted to lobster, swordfish and maritime cuisine, organised by the Council and fishing-sector organisations in harbour and town-centre venues.
