Local festivals in Barbadás
Barbadás spreads its festive calendar across its parishes and settlements. A Valenzá is known for the San Bernabé festivities, while Entroido, with its parade and Queima dos Mecos, and San Martiño are two other deeply rooted dates in the municipality.
Usual celebration
San Bernabé is usually celebrated in A Valenzá over the weekend before 11 June and culminates that day in Praza Vella with the traditional baile da pataca. The city council coordinates the organisation with the festival committee, Civil Protection, Local Police, the Culture department and the music school; open-air dances, sports and community events take place at several venues in A Valenzá.
Other events
The municipal Entroido includes a children's costume competition and a main parade along Avenida de Celanova. The local calendar also features the San Benito de Cova do Lobo pilgrimage, San Juan in Barbadás and cultural activities at Casa da Cultura Manuel María, Museo da Gaita de Fole and Parque dos Patos.
