Usual celebration

The patronal San Xoán festivities usually last five days around 24 June. The municipal tradition brings together religious, cultural, musical and sporting events, the medieval market and the Pampónigas. On the night of the 23rd, the Noite do Lume combines a communal queimada and a large bonfire; the Town Council, associations and cultural groups, residents, visitors and pilgrims take part in events around the town's streets and public spaces.

2026 programme

The official San Xoán 2026 programme runs from 23 to 27 June. Borja Tosar's opening address begins the Pancetada and Queimada Popular, followed by the lighting of the large bonfire, Eoas and a Correfoc by Dimonis de la Plana. The programme includes open-air dances, children's shows, street entertainment, bands and traditional groups, futsal and the VibraXoán youth event.

Local public holidays in 2026

The official resolution published in the DOG sets 25 June, the day after St John's Day, and 8 September, the feast of Our Lady of the Remedies, for Sarria. These are the municipality's two local public holidays in 2026: they should not be confused with 24 June, a Galicia-wide public holiday, or with the full duration of the San Xoán festivities.

Other cultural events

The Noite Meiga, organised on the last Saturday in August in Parque do Chanto by the Meigas e Trasgos Cultural Centre with municipal support, brings together dance, music, fire and the traditional conxuro. Fairs, concerts and activities linked to the Camino de Santiago complete the cultural calendar during the year.
