Local festivals in Lugo

San Froilán is Lugo's principal festival and retains the character of the traditional fair founded in the eighteenth century, while Arde Lucus recreates the city's Roman and castrexo past within the walls.

Usual celebration

San Froilán is usually celebrated around 5 October and lasts several days. The fairground and the streets of the historic centre host rides and stalls, octopus marquees, concerts, traditional music parades, giants and big-head figures and Domingo das Mozas. The Concello coordinates the programme with cultural associations, fairground operators, hospitality businesses and neighbourhood groups.

Local public holidays in 2026

The DOG resolution and the municipal e-government calendar designate Tuesday 17 February, Shrove Tuesday, and Monday 5 October, San Froilán, as Lugo's two local public holidays in 2026. The latter is one non-working day and does not represent the full length of the festivities.

Other events

Arde Lucus marked its twenty-fifth anniversary from 18 to 21 June 2026 with more than 300 activities. The historic centre became Lucus Augusti once more through encampments, Roman troops, castrexo tribes, parades and historically supervised re-enactments.
