Local festivals in Burela
Burela's festive calendar is tied to the port, fishing and the culture of A Mariña. The patronal festivities of the Virgen del Carmen and San Xoán, Feira do Bonito and the Monte Castelo pilgrimage bring together seafaring traditions, food, music and community participation.
Usual celebration
The patronal festivities are usually celebrated on the first weekend in June, before the tuna fleet goes to sea. A floral carpet leads from the church to the port for the night procession of the Virgen del Carmen, while on Sunday the boats join the maritime procession and offering. The council, festival committee, fishermen's guild and fishing sector, associations and residents organise or support the events.
Other cultural events
Festa Castrexa, the Osa do Mar festival, Festa da Castaña and the programme at the Reina del Carmen tuna boat museum complete the cultural calendar. Feira do Bonito, declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest, promotes the local product and fishing heritage.
